Although it is especially known as painter, the modelling took from 1860s a bigger and bigger place(square) in the work of Degas to become at the end of its career(quarry) its main means of expression.
With the exception of the Small fourteen-year-old dancer exposed(explained) in 1881, his(her, its) sculptures remained unknown in his lifetime. It is that after his(her, its) death in 1917 that we discovered them.
On approximately hundred and fifty rooms(parts, plays) which we found in his(her) workshop(studio), seventy-three wax only were able to be saved; they were confided(entrusted) to Hébrard who melted, in lost wax, twenty two bronze series, marked of A in T and exposed(explained) for the first time in 1921. The series P entered the Louvre in 1930.

The modelling offered to Degas a ground of experiences(experiments).
