During several centuries (Xlle-XIXè s), Japan lived under a feudal regime where dominated the art of the war, the sabre of which was the chivalrous weapon par excellence. His(her) guarding(nurse) became enough early a technically indispensable room(part,play), but also pretext in a decoration refined by its motives and his(her,its) materials (inlay of precious metals, etc.). The craftsmen of the metal made a real art, varying in the infinity the ornamental, symbolic, literary, heraldic or traditional subjects. The figurative animal here evokes a heron in the spread(displayed) wings.
Around thirty schools of these craftsmen are known, the style ''classic'' being represented to the XVth century by the school Gotô sabres of which were considered as the only weapons of court(yard) estimables.
