A young Italian artist, arrived at Paris in 1906, practising the direct size(cutting): Modigliani. Brancusi gives him(her) advice by 1909 and encourages him(her,it) in the way of this technique in which it sees '' the real road towards the sculpture ''.
So as it is recognized in this Feminine head the consistency of the stony block and, through the hardness of the expression, the elongation of the forms and the geometry of the lines(features) are easily recognizable, the sources of archaic inspiration or art Baoulé and give to this work a composite character.
Modigliani abandons(gives up) next year the sculpture, too expensive and too painful, to dedicate itself till the end of his(her) life to the paint(painting) which dût a lot moreover in its sculpture.
