The production of small figurines in terra-cotta exists in Greece from the high archaism, for manners which are still often unknown us; whereas ''tanagra'', of the name of the city of Boeotia where were discovered the first copies, is in the Hellenistic time(period) intended to decorate the inside of little fortunate amateurs of sculptures.
The themes of these statuettes, which are in fact moldings published(edited) by numerous studios(workshops), are often pulled(fired) by the everyday life(daily paper) of which the theater actors are a member, and with which jokes sometimes supply the subject in of delicious representations.
